Paratransit Driver

This safety sensitive position carry out duties pertaining to the safe, courteous and efficient operation of assigned transit vehicle including customer service and fare collection.

1. Operate Para-Transit vehicle safely and defensively on pre-established City routes, maintaining a time schedule. This duty is performed daily.

2. Pick up passengers and discharge passengers at designated bus stops and assist any special needs passengers. This duty is performed daily.

3. Ensure passengers safety in the event of accident or vehicle break down. This duty is performed daily.

4. Collect and account for fares. This duty is performed daily.

5. Provide information and directions for passengers, both on and off the bus. This duty is performed daily.

6. Maintain ridership information. This duty is performed daily.

7. Maintain a clean work area (Interior of vehicle). This duty is performed daily.

8. Operate a 2-way mobile radio. This duty is performed daily.

9. Complete incident and accident report forms. This duty is performed as needed.

10. Adhere to all safety guidelines and report any unsafe condition to my supervisor. This duty is performed as needed.

11. Operating a city vehicle is required for the essential functions.

12. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

High school or GED, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area; e.g. data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation, etc., plus 7 to 11 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, general public and other employees of the organization.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to prepare and interpret bar graphs.

Ability to utilize common sense understanding in order to carry out written, oral or diagrammed instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving several known variables in situations of a routine nature.
