Description
HVAC Mechanic
Responsible for installation, upgrading, troubleshooting and maintenance of all district heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems. Also performs basic maintenance work throughout the district as needed. Familiarity with boilers preferred. This position is classified as emergency personnel.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following: (Other appropriate duties may be assigned.)
- Performs all preventive and routine heating, ventilation and air-conditioning maintenance to district facilities in order to maintain a safe and efficient environment based on a work order system.
- Reviews work orders on a daily basis and documents work needed and completed.
- Plans new or modifies existing installations to minimize waste of materials to provide access for future maintenance.
- Coordinates maintenance work and building automation schedules with school activities, other maintenance trades and public utilities.
- Inspects new equipment installations performed by contractors and reports performance status to maintenance supervisors.
- Operates district-owned vehicles and powered equipment in order to complete day-to-day work assigned.
- Responds to after-hour emergencies and performs specially assigned project work as assigned.
- Advises the Director of Facilities of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning needs and advises when outside contractors may be needed.
- Assists in the emergency snow removal process by driving a district-provided plow or manual snow shoveling and salt dispensing.
- Classified as emergency personnel and must report for designated duties in the event of inclement weather conditions; time and duties assigned by the Director of Facilities and/or Custodial & Warehouse Supervisor.

- High School Diploma or Equivalent with completion of a formal HVAC apprenticeship or HVAC training program required.
- Minimum of three years of HVAC / Building Mechanical System experience.
- Working knowledge of Building Automation Systems.
- Strong communication skills both oral and written.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds on a regular basis and up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
- Ability to ambulate a ladder to roof level.
- Ability to work in extreme (hot and cold) weather conditions.
- Ability to report to work in inclement weather conditions.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, crawl for a period of 8 hours per day.
- Valid current state driver's license must be maintained at all times.
- Ability to utilize computer software systems.
- Must successfully complete and maintain compliance with all federal and state background and criminal record check requirements.
- Candidate must adhere to all local, state, federal, and school code requirements for employment.
