Refrigeration Technician

The Refrigeration Technician monitors, maintains, and troubleshoots industrial refrigeration systems, including ammonia and glycol systems, as well as steam boilers, HVAC systems, and related equipment in a food manufacturing environment. This role ensures safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all refrigeration and utility systems while strictly following Standard Operating Procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices, and company policies. The technician uses a computerized maintenance management system to complete work orders, document activities, and support Total Productive Manufacturing initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor and maintain refrigeration equipment, including all components and associated glycol systems, to ensure reliable and efficient operation.
  • Monitor, adjust, and document ammonia system pressures and temperatures in accordance with established procedures and safety requirements.
  • Monitor and maintain steam boilers, HVAC systems, and related equipment to support continuous plant operations.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on refrigeration, HVAC, and associated mechanical systems to minimize downtime.
  • Troubleshoot refrigeration, electrical, and mechanical issues using appropriate tools, such as multimeters and refrigeration gauges, and implement effective repairs.
  • Utilize a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), such as SAP, to receive, complete, and document work orders and maintenance activities.
  • Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) to maintain compliance with regulatory and internal standards.
  • Promote and maintain the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance in all maintenance activities.
  • Support Total Productive Manufacturing (TPM) initiatives by contributing to continuous improvement of equipment reliability and plant performance.
  • Apply strong knowledge of industrial electrical and plumbing components during installation, maintenance, and repair tasks.
  • Read and interpret pressure and temperature charts to assess system performance and identify potential issues.
  • Work effectively with building automation systems to monitor and adjust equipment operation as needed.
  • Perform facilities maintenance tasks related to refrigeration, HVAC, and utilities to support overall plant operations.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including safety rules and regulatory requirements.
  • Work overtime, irregular hours, or rotating shifts as required to support 24/7 operations and respond to equipment issues.
Essential Skills
  • Strong knowledge of industrial maintenance practices, including refrigeration, HVAC, and mechanical systems.
  • Hands-on experience with ammonia refrigeration systems, with 4–5 years of experience required.
  • Ability to monitor, adjust, and document ammonia system pressures and temperatures accurately and safely.
  • Ability to use a multimeter and refrigeration gauges for troubleshooting and diagnostics.
  • Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting and working with industrial electrical components.
  • Experience performing preventative and corrective maintenance on refrigeration, HVAC, and related equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret pressure and temperature charts to evaluate system performance.
  • Experience using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), such as SAP, to complete and document work orders.
  • Experience using computer systems, including Microsoft applications, for documentation and communication.
  • High school diploma, GED, or trade school equivalent, required.
  • 2-year degree in refrigeration or a related field, required.
  • Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and company policies consistently.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for refrigeration, HVAC, and mechanical systems in an industrial environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in a food manufacturing environment, preferred.
  • Familiarity with Process Safety Management (PSM) programs, preferred.
  • PSM training, preferred.
  • Operator 1 and Operator 2 training, preferred.
  • EPA Certification for handling refrigerants, preferred.
  • Experience with Total Productive Manufacturing (TPM) or similar continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience with installation and commissioning of refrigeration and HVAC equipment.
  • Strong communication skills to document work clearly and collaborate with operations and maintenance teams.

Work Environment

This role operates in a climate-controlled, clean, FDA-regulated manufacturing facility. The environment is fast paced, with minimal downtime and a constant focus on machine repairs, preventative maintenance, and system reliability. You will work around industrial refrigeration systems, steam boilers, HVAC equipment, and building automation systems, using tools such as multimeters, refrigeration gauges, and computer-based maintenance systems.

Job Type & Location: This is a Permanent position based out of ARLINGTON, TN.

Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $79040.00 - $85280.00/yr.

Workplace Type: This is a fully onsite position in ARLINGTON, TN.
