Description

Community Action Partnership has an exciting opportunity for HVAC/Weatherization Associate. HVAC/Weatherization Associate will assist with daily operations at Community Action Partnership of Orange County's newly developed Weatherization Research and Development (WR&D) Center. Under the supervision of the Field Superintendent and Senior Construction Manager, the associate will support the development and implementation of program procedures and ensure that requirements are aligned to build sustainable support that impacts the lives of hundreds of residents. This is a short-term, 1-year grant-funded position with the possibility of matriculating into other roles. The associate will be playing a critical role in the work and dedication of Community Action Partnership of Orange County's initiatives. What You Will Accomplish In This Role

Under the supervision of the Field Superintendent and Senior Construction Manager, the HVAC/Weatherization Associate will support daily operations at the WR&D Center and support technical training for our service team. You will be responsible for ensuring facility safety, diagnostic equipment setup, and maintenance of all systems at the WR&D Center. The Associate will assist in mentoring apprentices to improve their technical proficiency, safety adherence, and customer service skills. Associate will perform other duties as needed and/or assigned within the Energy & Environmental Services (EES) Department.

The non-exempt hourly rate of pay for this position is $25.00 - $30.00.

Roles And Responsibilities
  • Technical Instruction: Assist with the delivery of hands-on training sessions covering HVAC installation, electrification, diagnostics, and repair.
  • Understand home assessment protocol to determine the eligibility/feasibility of measure installation within the dwelling.
  • Mentorship: Support supervision and mentorship of apprentice technicians on-site to ensure high-quality workmanship and compliance with safety standards.
  • Assist in diagnostic testing and re-testing of CAS, duct leakage, and shell leakage tests in accordance with funding source guidelines.
  • Complex Diagnostics: Assist in troubleshooting and repairing complex mechanical and electrical faults in WR&D systems.
  • Assist in inspecting HVAC Heat Pump and Heat Pump Water Heater installations completed by apprentices.
  • Perform daily WR&D Building Inspections, maintain daily logs of equipment, ensuring facility is fully functional.
  • Report to the Field Superintendent or Senior Construction Manager on any center concerns, failures, or discrepancies.
  • Participate in weekly safety meetings.
  • Confirm that diagnostic equipment is functional and is calibrated to manufacturer requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
The Ideal Candidate Has Knowledge And Experience In
  • EPIC standards, values, and upholding the EPIC pillars while demonstrating a positive attitude towards all participants, colleagues, management, and community.
  • Basic computer skills. Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel is highly desirable but not required.
  • HERS Rater Certified Professional, familiar with inspections, testing, and evaluation of home energy performance (Preference)
Ideal Candidate Must Be
  • Minimum of 5–10 years of hands-on HVAC experience, with at least 2 years in a lead capacity.
  • Must hold a valid EPA Section 608 Universal Certification; NATE certification is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Familiarity with heat pump technology and the ability to assist with instructing apprentices on equipment, installation, and maintenance
  • Understand mathematical calculations, written reports, how to read and interpret construction plans and specifications, and support installation of energy conservation measures.
  • Familiarity with energy audits, electric load meters, carpentry hand and power tools, and other equipment used in the performance of the job assigned.
  • Demonstrate a clear, concise, and effective command of the English language, both oral and written. If bilingual, must be able to translate orally and in writing from/to English and a second language.
  • Possess an OSHA 30 certificate or willingness to obtain within 120 days from the date of hire.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Bending, stooping, reaching, pulling, pushing, standing, kneeling, sitting, twisting, turning, walking, and bending at the waist may be physical requirements of the job.
  • Customer service oriented: Establish rapport with staff, agencies, and clients from culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Possess a valid California Driver's License with a driving record that meets minimum standards established by Community Action Partnership of Orange County insurance carrier, proof of vehicle insurance, access to a vehicle, and willingness to drive/travel when required.
  • Willingness to work in or drive to any location within Orange County.
  • Willingness to attend workshops and training, travel may be required.
Qualifications

Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED; completion of an accredited technical or vocational HVAC program. Specialized training or certification in the Weatherization, HERS field, or a related field is a plus.

Travel: Possess a valid California Driver's License with a driving record that meets minimum standards established by CAP OC insurance carrier, proof of vehicle insurance, access to a vehicle, and willingness to drive/travel when required.

Typically, travel is local during the business day to/from CAP OC locations, and the incumbent will use a personal vehicle. Travel may occur during evening hours, be out-of-area, and involve overnight travel.
