Engineer 4

The Engineer 4 supports facility design, operation, and maintenance within plutonium facility environments, including rapid response engineering efforts. This role applies advanced engineering principles to perform complex analyses, develop design solutions, and support construction and project execution. The position contributes to multidisciplinary projects, ensures compliance with DOE/NNSA standards, and plays a key role in delivering high-quality engineering solutions. The Engineer 4 may lead projects, mentor junior engineers, and support continuous improvement of engineering processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform complex engineering design and analysis in support of facility design, operations, and maintenance
- Develop and review engineering design packages and technical documentation
- Support construction activities, including field support and design integration
- Apply industry, regulatory, and DOE/NNSA codes and standards to engineering work
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to support system integration and project execution
- Lead engineering projects or tasks and supervise or mentor junior engineers, as needed
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance engineering efficiency and quality
- Utilize engineering and design software tools to develop and review technical solutions
- Support rapid response engineering efforts for facility needs and operational challenges
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and a minimum of nine (9) years of related experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Experience in engineering design, analysis, and project support within industrial, nuclear, or construction environments
- Knowledge of applicable codes and standards (e.g., ASCE, ASME, NQA-1, IBC, IEEE, NFPA, NEC)
- Experience developing and reviewing engineering design packages and deliverables
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance and participate in the Human Reliability Program (HRP)
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work through problems quickly and effectively and define a clear path to resolution
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced engineering or technical degree
- Experience in electrical, structural, civil, or mechanical engineering discipline
- Experience supporting construction projects from design through execution ("cradle to grave")
- Experience mentoring or supervising junior engineers
- Familiarity with computer-aided design (CAD) or mark-up software tools
- Experience working in DOE, NNSA, or DOD environments
- Strong understanding of multidisciplinary project integration and construction support
