Housekeeper Opportunity in Manhattan
A private couple in Manhattan is seeking a professional, proactive, and detail-oriented Housekeeper to support the upkeep of their home. This is a long-term, part-time opportunity ideal for a career housekeeper who takes pride in their work, enjoys autonomy, and can confidently manage a home with minimal direction. The household consists of two adults (no children, no pets), in a 2500 sq.ft apartment. The principals value discretion, consistency, and a "take initiative" mindset. They are respectful, easygoing employers who have had long-term success with prior housekeepers and are looking for someone who can integrate seamlessly into their home. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working independently, maintaining a high standard of cleanliness, and communicating proactively regarding household needs, supplies, and scheduling.
Schedule
- 2 days per week (approximately 12 hours total)
- Flexible scheduling based on candidate preference
- Non-consecutive days strongly preferred (e.g., Monday/Thursday, Tuesday/Friday)
- Flexible start times (e.g., 9am–3pm, 10am–4pm, etc.)
Responsibilities
General Housekeeping
- Maintain overall cleanliness and organization of the home to a consistently high standard
- Dust and wipe all surfaces, including furniture, décor, shelving, and baseboards
- Vacuum rugs, carpets, and upholstered surfaces
- Sweep and mop all hard floors
- Clean interior windows and glass surfaces as needed
- Wipe down light switches, door handles, and high-touch areas
- Spot-clean walls and maintain overall presentation of the home
- Tidy and reset common areas, ensuring the home feels consistently clean and well-kept
Kitchen
- Clean countertops, cabinet fronts, and all surfaces
- Clean appliance exteriors and interiors as needed (refrigerator, oven, microwave, dishwasher)
- Empty, clean, and re-line trash, recycling, and compost bins
Bathrooms
- Weekly deep cleaning of all bathrooms (toilets, sinks, mirrors, showers, tubs, floors)
- Regular towel changes and upkeep
Laundry & Linens
- Laundry for two adults (wash, dry, fold, and put away)
- Ironing (dress shirts, pants, pillowcases)
- Weekly bed linen changes
Household Management (Light)
- Monitor and communicate supply needs; employer will restock promptly
- Use professional judgment to determine cleaning frequency and task rotation
- Take initiative in identifying and addressing areas needing attention without direction
Qualifications
- Familiarity with caring for fine furnishings and specialty materials
- Strong communication skills (primarily via text)
- Long-term mindset and desire for consistency
Requirements
- 5+ years of private home housekeeping experience
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
- Professional, discreet, and respectful of privacy
- Comfortable working in a home with minimal supervision
- Comfortable working in a fragrance-sensitive home environment and mindful of heavily scented products
- Willing to adhere to a uniform standard, including:
- Clean, solid-color scrub-style attire (navy, black, charcoal, or forest green preferred)
- Closed-toe, non-slip shoes designated for indoor use only
- Must refrain from wearing jewelry (rings, bracelets, wrist/hand accessories) while working
- Personal phone use should be limited to essential communication only
- Must be respectful, inclusive, and comfortable working in an LGBTQ+ household
- Legally able to work in the U.S. and willing to be paid on payroll (W-2)
Salary and Benefits
- $45/hour
- Guaranteed weekly hours (even if principals are traveling or away)
- Flexible schedule
- Paid in compliance with all tax regulations (W-2)
- MetroCard reimbursement (reasonable commuting costs)
- $200 annual uniform stipend
