HR Clerk

The HR Clerk will be the on-site HR contact, while also providing general administrative support to the Constantine Plant Operations team by compiling, processing, and maintaining transactions of office activities. This position will perform a variety of administrative office activities and will require knowledge of systems and procedures including payroll processing, office administration, recruiting and onboarding, training, safety, benefits, leaves of absence, record maintenance and policy implementation. This role will work closely with the HR Director in the Headquarters office.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Encourage and foster a positive and collaborative labor relations environment
  • Respond and resolve questions and concerns from employees and management
  • Responsible for all hourly recruiting, selection and on-boarding; and associated tasks
  • Lead employee training efforts within the facility
  • Manage employee attendance records and issue disciplinary warnings, when necessary
  • Assist in the administration of Worker's Compensation, including filing and following up on claims, working with the insurance carrier and supporting the employee through the injury
  • Assist in employees with leave requests, including providing and submitting leave paperwork and ensuring pay is administered correctly
  • Supports and participates in company activities and functions
  • Maintain all personnel, company and HR files and records
  • Process weekly hourly payroll and ensure data accuracy in the system for wages, banking information, classifications, etc.
  • Assists employees with benefit enrollment
  • Develops and follows plans and procedures to keep the office in order.
  • Maintain and monitor the plant lock software system and report unusual occurrences.
  • Responsible for plant purchasing and payables.
  • Balance and maintain petty cash
  • Assists with project development and planning to ensure efficient service and organization of the office.
  • Make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred; high school diploma or equivalent required
  • The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, a self-starter and take great initiative. Proficient in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, ERP software and HRIS systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal, organizational, and planning/implementation skills.
  • Up to date knowledge of HR, safety and worker's compensation principles, regulations and laws.
  • Previous experience with labor relations preferred
  • Ability to research, analyze, and interpret varied data and information.
  • Ability to establish, maintain and develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with employees, management and the union
  • Shows value for different opinions, shows flexibility to different opinions

Physical Requirements and Essential Functions:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk to hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Occasionally sitting, standing, walking, bending over, climbing, and kneeling.
  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
