Under the supervision of the Facility & Guest Services Coordinator and operational guidance of the Student Operations Assistant, the Student Guest Services Assistant is responsible for providing general information, assistance, and guest service support to students, staff, and campus guests visiting the University Student Union (USU) Sol Center and The Valera NEST. The Student Guest Services Assistant professionally represents the USU and serves as an ambassador for its programs, services, and facilities.

Job duties include:

  • Operating USU front desks while providing high-quality guest services and accurate information in accordance with USU and CSUN policies
  • Responding to guest inquiries in person and by phone, providing information about CSUN and USU programs, services, and special events
  • Gathering and maintaining up-to-date information about services, events, and resources to share with guests as needed
  • Communicating guest concerns or feedback to the appropriate personnel
  • Facilitating USU equipment rentals by verifying the eligibility of guests, students, and USU employees
  • Preparing daily shift reports
  • Responding appropriately to a variety of emergency situations, including but not limited to medical emergencies and civil disturbances, and coordinating and/or executing emergency procedures as needed
  • Sending professional correspondence to guests and personnel
  • Maintaining lost and found items and coordinating drop-off to campus police
  • Conducting traffic counts at hourly intervals to monitor facility usage and prepares reports
  • Notifying appropriate USU staff when guests arrive for meetings or appointments
  • Interpreting and enforcing USU policies and procedures
  • Assisting with mail delivery throughout the USU facilities
  • Attending monthly department meetings and trainings
  • Remaining proficient in related software and equipment to support daily operations
  • Conducting tours of the USU facilities to students, staff, and guests
  • Performing other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Education:

Must be a currently enrolled CSUN student

Experience:

No previous related experience and/or specialized education required

Other requirements:

Must be available to work a minimum of 10/hours/week based on the operational needs and working hours of the department

Must be able to attend mandatory in-person USU and department orientations, trainings, and meetings

This position is a sensitive position as designated by the CSU. Supervision is provided by the Facility & Guest Services Coordinator and Student Operations Assistant

Typical working conditions:

Work is primarily performed in a temperature-controlled office environment. Daily contact with members of the campus community, including students, faculty, staff, administrators and guests, is required. In addition to regularly assigned work schedule Monday-Friday, must possess an ability and willingness to work some weekends, academic interim, and break periods as needed; must be flexible, adaptable, and readily able to adjust to changes in work environment.
