Sr Mechanical Engineer
Responsibilities for this position include applying engineering techniques to design, install, modify, analyze, repair, and test tools, engines, machines, and other mechanically functioning equipment. You will read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports. You will confer with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information. You will research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications. You will specify system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications. You will investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, and make recommendations to the maintenance crew.
Essential functions include:
- Applies engineering techniques to design, install, modify, analyze, repair, and test tools, engines, machines, and other mechanically functioning equipment.
- Reads and interprets blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
- Confers with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.
- Researches and analyzes customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
- Specifies system components or directs modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
- Investigates equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, and to make recommendations to maintenance crew.
Required qualifications include:
- Required education and experience: Associate's Degree and 5-7 years' experience
- Discipline/Major: Engineering degree required
- Critical professional related technical skills; computer skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Preferred qualifications include:
- Preferred education and experience: Bachelor's Degree
- Knowledge, skills & abilities: Oral and written communication skills. Ability to meet deadlines. Interpersonal skills. Problem-solving skills. Analytical thinking skills. Applied mechanics. Design engineering. Design optimization. Design review. Mechanical engineering. Prototyping. Requirements engineering/analysis. CAD software. Computer-aided engineering (CAE) software.
- Active SECRET security clearance
- Manage all technical aspects of multiyear ordnance production program(s)
- Work collaboratively in an IPT with other functions and customer representatives
- Serve as primary technical interface for customers and suppliers, working closely with technical counterparts
- Support risk management activities
- Strong understanding of ordnance production and testing
- Have an understanding of test systems (digital data acquisition test systems)
- Proficient in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing IAW ASME Y14.5
- Strong technical writing and analytical skills including statistical analysis
- Experience in ordnance lethality analysis tools and methodologies strongly preferred, to include use of AJEM, TurboPk, AFSIM, and other associated lethality analysis tools.
- Experience maintaining, operating, and upgrading high performance computing clusters for analysis, both in classified and unclassified regimes also strongly preferred.
Physical requirements include:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.
- Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.
- May need to stand for long periods of time.
- Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.
- Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery.
Travel requirements include:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.
- Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.
- May need to stand for long periods of time.
