Description
Driver - Tractor/Trailer
Responsible for transporting waste and recyclables from local collection sites to transfer stations or disposal facilities (DFW area). Must have strong work ethic, excellent driving skills, and a commitment to safety and environmental sustainability.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Transport waste and recyclables:
- Safely operate a company vehicle (typically larger trucks or transfer vehicles) to transport trash and recyclables from collection sites to transfer stations or landfills.
- Ensure all waste and recycling is properly secured and transported without spillage or hazards.
- Vehicle maintenance and safety:
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the vehicle is in safe working condition.
- Report any mechanical issues, damages, or accidents to the supervisor immediately.
- Maintain a clean and organized vehicle, both inside and out.
- Route management:
- Follow assigned routes to pick up waste/recycling from multiple collection points, ensuring timely and efficient service.
- Coordinate with dispatch to ensure routes are followed and any changes are communicated.
- Compliance and regulations:
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal safety regulations and waste management rules.
- Follow proper safety protocols for handling waste materials, especially hazardous waste or recyclables.
- Customer service:
- Maintain a professional attitude when interacting with clients and customers, especially during pickups and drop-offs.
- Address customer inquiries or concerns in a courteous manner, reporting any issues to the supervisor.
- Environmental responsibility:
- Ensure waste and recyclable materials are properly sorted and transported to the correct facilities.
- Assist in identifying and promoting sustainable practices in waste management and recycling efforts.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience: Previous experience as a yard laborer, with at least [X] years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Leadership skills: Strong team management and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and guide others.
- Physical stamina: Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting heavy materials (up to [X] pounds), and working in various weather conditions.
- Safety awareness: Knowledge of safety standards and regulations related to yard and warehouse operations.
- Equipment proficiency: Familiarity with yard equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand tools.
- Problem-solving: Ability to quickly assess situations and implement solutions to maintain smooth operations.
Physical Requirements
- Valid driver's license (Non-CDL or CDL depending on the vehicle type).
- Clean driving record with no history of major traffic violations.
- Experience driving heavy trucks or transfer vehicles (preferred).
- Knowledge of local routes and waste management regulations.
- Ability to safely load, unload, and secure materials.
- Basic vehicle maintenance skills and ability to identify minor vehicle issues.
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in waste management, recycling, or a similar field.
- Forklift certification (if required for certain tasks).
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and best practices in waste disposal.
