Responsibilities

The Enhanced Capabilities for Subcritical Experiments (ECSE) program is seeking outstanding Pulsed Power Engineers at various career stages (Principal Engineer or Senior Principal Engineer) to work with a technical team to install, commission, and maintain the Scorpius Pulsed Power Linear Induction Accelerator. This high-current relativistic electron accelerator is driven by nearly 45,000 solid state pulsed power stages and is the most advanced accelerator the U.S. has ever developed. Successful candidates will work within a collaboration between the Nevada National Security Site, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Livermore National Laboratory, and Sandia National Laboratory to prepare the accelerator for state-of-the-art experiments and to solve challenging problems that will improve pulsed power and accelerator performance.

Responsibilities – Principal Electrical Engineer – Pulsed Power

  • Work alongside scientists and engineers to install, trouble-shoot, and test cutting-edge technologies in North Las Vegas and the Nevada National Security Site.
  • Develop circuit models capable of accurately modeling start-of-the-art accelerator systems.
  • Develop subscripts in various program languages to aid analysis and/or manipulate data.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure appropriate predictive capabilities and measurement techniques exists for the development of high-fidelity computer models.
  • Remain aware of advancements in Pulsed Power Engineering theory, techniques, and capabilities.
  • Document results in institutional reports and peer-reviewed journals; present results at institutional meetings, project/program meetings, internal/external workshops, and various conferences.
  • Participate in mentoring summer interns and less experienced staff.
  • Contribute to and participate in planning and reporting activities.
