Substitute Student Monitor

Location: Vermilion Local Schools / Vermilion, OH Employment Type: As Needed / Part-Time / On-Call Pay Rate: $11.00/Hour

About the Role

Dedicated School Staffing is seeking dependable and attentive Substitute Student Monitors to support schools when regular staff are absent. Substitute Monitors play a vital role in maintaining student safety, order, and positive behavior in non-classroom settings such as hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, and during arrival and dismissal. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with students and can remain calm, observant, and professional in a variety of situations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise students in assigned areas, including hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, restrooms, or study halls
  • Promote and reinforce positive behavior and school expectations
  • Monitor student movement during transitions to ensure safety and order
  • Assist with arrival and dismissal procedures
  • Report any safety concerns, incidents, or behavioral issues to appropriate staff
  • Maintain a visible, supportive presence to help prevent conflicts or unsafe behavior
  • Provide general assistance to teachers or administrators as needed
  • Follow all school policies, procedures, and supervision guidelines

Required Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid student monitor/educational aide permit or higher teaching license (as required by state regulations)
  • Clean criminal background checks
  • Ability to supervise and interact positively with students
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Dependability, professionalism, and good judgment
  • Ability to remain alert, observant, and calm in busy or unpredictable environments
  • Adherence to the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or in school settings
  • Familiarity with behavior expectations and school safety procedures
  • Ability to manage groups of students effectively
