Park Maintenance Technician

Gloucester County's Updated Compensation Structure Hiring salary: $36,130-$43,347

Gloucester County is currently accepting applications for a Park Maintenance Technician position. This role is essential to maintaining the integrity and appearance of our parks, recreational facilities, athletic fields, and other landscaped areas, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for our community. Under general supervision and direction, performs a variety of landscaping and maintenance duties in the care and maintenance of our parks, athletic fields, playgrounds, landscaped areas, and facilities throughout the County. Work involves using a variety of procedures, equipment and supplies to maintain shrubs, trees, turf, athletic fields, fences, playground equipment and facilities. May guide, direct and monitor the work of volunteers and/or other employees assisting with grounds upkeep. Reports to Park Maintenance Supervisor.

Job Highlights
  • Performs a variety of landscaping and grounds maintenance duties to include mowing, aerating, seeding, applying herbicides and pesticides, fertilizing, planting, watering, etc.
  • Maintains athletic fields.
  • Safely uses chain saws to cut down and/or remove dead or fallen trees throughout parks.
  • Opens parks and collects trash in athletic fields, landscaped areas, surrounding areas, parking lots, and public boat landings.
  • Cleans restrooms, portable toilets, picnic shelters and other park facilities.
  • Inspects and maintains playground equipment.
  • May guide, direct and monitor the work of volunteers and/or court appointed individuals, or other employees assisting with grounds upkeep.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and routine repair on tools and equipment as needed to attain serviceability.
  • Repairs picnic tables, benches, fences, playgrounds, etc.
  • Safely operates vehicles, trailers, tractors, infield groomers and common hand tools at work sites.
  • Assists in the breakdown of stages, tables, chairs, supplies and equipment for special events and tournaments.
  • Assists with designing landscaping plans to include the selection of appropriate plants, flowers, and trees for parks.
  • Assists in maintaining Safety Data Sheets for each park.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Three (3) to four (4) years of skilled landscaping and maintenance experience.

Special Requirements
  • Possession of a valid driver's license; possess and maintain a driving record that meets established Gloucester County Driving Standards.
  • Pass a post-offer, pre-employment physical examination. Employee may be subject to subsequent physical examinations to ensure he/she meets job-related physical requirements.
  • Possession of a Commercial Pesticide Applicator License - Category 3 or obtain within 12 months of employment. Certified Fertilizer Applicator or obtain within 12 months of employment.
  • Possession of, or ability to successfully complete within sixty (60) days of employment, Red Cross-approved course in First Aid, AED, and CPR. First Aid, AED and CPR certification must be maintained while employed by the County.
