Summary of Position
This is a full-time contracted faculty position responsible for instructional delivery, curriculum development, and program implementation in Commercial Truck Driving.
The initial assignment of this position includes development and delivery of Continuing Education (CE) instruction to establish program capacity and workforce alignment. The position is intentionally designed to transition into credit-bearing academic instruction upon approval of mirrored academic coursework.
As faculty, the instructor participates in curriculum development, assessment, accreditation support, and college service, and supports student pathways from non-credit workforce training into academic credentials. This position is classified as contract faculty and is subject to applicable faculty policies regarding workload, evaluation, professional development, and service.
Education and Experience
Associate Degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education or demonstrated industry expertise with credentials sufficient to meet faculty equivalency standards required.
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and 36 months of verifiable commercial driving experience within the past 10 years are required.
• Experience in teaching or training drivers in a classroom or behind-the-wheel environment preferred.
Knowledge Skills and Ability
• Demonstrated expertise in Commercial Truck Driving, including current industry practices and applicable FMCSA and DOT regulations
• Ability to safely operate commercial vehicles and demonstrate vehicle inspection and safety procedures in classroom, range, and behind-the-wheel instructional settings.
• Ability to design, organize, and deliver effective instruction using sound pedagogical and adult learning principles, including lesson planning, assessment, and evaluation of student learning aligned with institutional standards.
• Ability to develop instructional materials, lesson plans, and assessments aligned with learning outcomes, program objectives, and future credit-bearing coursework requirements.
• Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with students using both written and oral communication methods, and to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to provide academic and vocational guidance to students in support of career exploration and educational pathways in the transportation field.
• Ability to effectively facilitate instruction for both large and small groups across classroom, lab, range, and applied learning environments.
• Proficiency in the use of instructional technology, including Learning Management Systems such as Blackboard, as well as standard office productivity software including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Demonstrated planning, organization, and time-management skills, including the ability to maintain accurate instructional, training, and certification records, meet institutional deadlines, and manage multiple responsibilities.
• Ability to participate in curriculum development, academic program planning, and faculty-led curriculum approval processes in preparation for future academic program implementation.
• Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, punctuality, and ability to follow institutional policies and procedures, with willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings or weekends, as required by instructional and program needs.
Essential Functions
• Teach assigned courses in accordance with approved syllabi, instructional materials, and institutional standards, including adherence to scheduled class times and instructional calendars, and provide timely evaluation of student performance and feedback.
• Prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional activities that support student progress toward established learning outcomes in classroom, range, and behind-the-wheel instructional environments.
• Develop, maintain, and update course syllabi, instructional materials, assessments, and training resources aligned with academic standards, workforce expectations, and preparation for future credit-bearing coursework.
• Maintain accurate instructional, attendance, performance, certification, and licensing records, ensuring confidentiality and submission of required documentation by established institutional deadlines.
• Monitor student attendance and progress, identify at-risk students, and provide academic and vocational guidance in support of credential attainment, career exploration, and student success.
• Participate in curriculum development, academic program planning, and the creation of mirrored academic coursework, including course outlines, learning outcomes, and assessment plans, in preparation for credit approval.
• Support program documentation, data collection, assessment activities, and accreditation efforts, including preparation of materials required for program review and compliance.
• Participate in faculty meetings, curriculum committees, professional development, and other shared governance activities consistent with contracted faculty responsibilities.
