PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Corporate Safety & Environmental Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and sustaining a comprehensive Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) program across all manufacturing operations. This role serves as the primary subject-matter expert on workplace safety compliance and environmental regulatory obligations, ensuring the organization meets all applicable OSHA, EPA, and Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) requirements. The position partners closely with Operations, Engineering, and HR leadership to embed a proactive safety culture throughout the facility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety Program Leadership:
- Design, implement, and continuously improve the company-wide safety management system in alignment with OSHA standards and VPP principles.
- Lead incident investigations using root cause analysis methodologies (RCFA, 5-Why, fault tree); develop and track corrective action plans to closure.
- Conduct and oversee job hazard analyses, process safety reviews, and facility-wide safety audits.
- Manage critical safety programs including lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, machine guarding, fall protection, and electrical safety.
- Maintain and report all OSHA recordkeeping requirements.
- Serve as primary point of contact for OSHA inspections, responding to citations and coordinating abatement activities.
Environmental Compliance:
- Oversee all environmental permits, registrations, and regulatory filings with the EPA and Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR).
- Manage air quality compliance programs including Title V or minor source permits, emission calculations, and annual reporting.
- Administer hazardous and non-hazardous waste programs including manifest tracking, storage area management, and disposal vendor oversight.
- Maintain stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPP) and ensure NPDES permit compliance.
- Prepare and submit all chemical inventory reports, filings, and other right-to-know reporting obligations.
- Training & Culture: Develop and deliver EHS training programs for all employee levels, including new hire orientation, annual refresher training, and supervisor-specific content.
Workers' Compensation & Injury Management:
- Manage workers' compensation program on all claim management and return-to-work programs.
- Conduct timely First Reports of Injury in compliance with applicable state guidelines.
Reporting & Metrics:
- Chair the Safety Committee; facilitate monthly safety meetings and maintain documentation of committee activities.
- Develop and present monthly EHS performance dashboards to the VP of People & Culture and senior leadership team.
- Establish and track leading and lagging safety indicators (TRIR, DART, near-miss rates, audit scores, training completion).
- Manage the EHS budget including capital expenditure requests for safety equipment and engineering controls.
- Directly supervise and mentor EHS team members; provide clear direction, set performance expectations, and conduct regular one-on-one check-ins.
- Conduct formal performance reviews on an annual basis and provide ongoing, real-time feedback to build a high-performing, engaged EHS team.

EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE - COMPUTER SKILLS
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Minimum 7-10 years of progressive EHS experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of OSHA General Industry standards and EPA regulatory frameworks.
- Experience managing environmental permits and compliance programs at the facility level.
- Proficiency with EHS management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
TRAINING - CERTIFICATIONS - LICENSES
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) - strongly preferred.
- Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) or Certified Environmental and Safety Compliance Officer (CESCO).
- OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification.
- Working knowledge of Iowa workers' compensation law (Iowa Code Chapter 85).
- Experience with ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 management systems preferred.

Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color and peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Specific hearing abilities required by this job include the ability to hear customers and the ability to hear instructions from others.
ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITY
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is in an office and training center setting.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually MODERATE.
- Employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts.
- Steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, and ear plugs are required in production areas and where posted.
