Laboratory – Phlebotomist

Required: * HSD/GED * Phlebotomy Cert, CA CPT * BLS * 1 year of Lab Assistant experience Preferred: * 3+ years of Phlebotomy/Lab experience Primary Duties and Responsibilities • Maintains and understands the daily phlebotomy schedule in the EMR • Prepares for patient blood draw based on the physician's orders in the EMR • Understands where to locate and how to comply with test collection requirements for each laboratory facility performing testing, including appropriate kits and paperwork required for esoteric testing • Collects the appropriate tubes required for each test order • Collects Specimens while following policy and procedure and maintaining the integrity of the process with strict adherence to patient identification policy • Effectively communicates with physicians and physician teams when order clarification is necessary • Adheres to hygiene and safety procedures • Inventories supplies for the phlebotomy area, restock as necessary • Performs a weekly expiration date check of all phlebotomy supplies • Rotates stored patient specimens from refrigerator to freezer storage and discards old samples • Assists the processing bench as needed for coverage during lunch and end-of-day duties
