Job Description
Title: Substitute Custodian Location: To Be Determined
Employment Type: On-Call / As Needed Work Days: As Assigned
FLSA: Non-Exempt Reports to: Director of Operations / Building Principal
Salary/Benefits:
$15.00 per hour
Job Summary:
The Substitute Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly school environment on an as-needed basis. This position supports daily building operations by performing routine cleaning, minor maintenance, and setup tasks to ensure a positive learning and working environment for students and staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Ability to follow directions and work independently
- Ability to perform physical tasks related to custodial duties
- Demonstrates reliability, punctuality, and professionalism
Essential Duties and Specific Responsibilities:
- Perform general cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, classrooms, offices, hallways, and common areas
- Empty trash and recycling receptacles and dispose of waste properly
- Replenish supplies such as paper towels, soap, and toilet paper
- Set up and take down furniture and equipment for school events and activities
- Assist with minor maintenance tasks as assigned
- Follow established safety procedures and proper use of cleaning chemicals
- Report maintenance issues, safety concerns, or building needs to supervisor
- Secure building areas as directed, including locking doors and checking facilities
- Maintain a professional and cooperative working relationship with staff
- Perform other duties as assigned
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to maintain cleanliness and organization in a school environment
- Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment
- Ability to follow safety procedures and directions
- Ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks
- Strong attention to detail
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull equipment and supplies
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical labor for extended periods
- Dependability and flexibility to work varying shifts as needed
- Commitment to maintaining a safe and welcoming school environment
Working Conditions:
School environment; may require evening shifts or varied hours depending on building needs. Work involves exposure to cleaning chemicals and physical activity.
Terms of Employment:
On-call position; hours vary based on district needs.
