Description

The Western Massachusetts Hospital operated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking experienced and committed Environmental Service Specialist I's for the Environmental Services (EVS) Department at the hospital campus in Westfield. The (EVS) Specialist is responsible for cleaning floors by sweeping, vacuuming, and washing; cleans interior surfaces such as walls, ceilings, and windows, cleans lavatories, washrooms, and mop closets. The incumbent operates equipment specific to an environmental services department, for example, floor machines, Kai Vac, automatic scrubbers, high speed burnishers, etc.

Please Note: The position is 1st shift, 6:30am - 3:00pm with days off being Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

  • Cleans floors by sweeping, vacuuming, and washing using appropriate supplies and equipment.
  • Cleans interior surfaces such as walls, ceilings, windows, furniture's, etc. by dusting, polishing, and washing using appropriate supplies and equipment.
  • Cleans toilets, lavatories, washrooms, mop closets, etc., using appropriate supplies and equipment to maintain the appearance and cleanliness of such areas.
  • Empty waste receptacles and disposes of general waste and infectious and hazardous waste.
  • Cleans furniture such as beds, dressers, chairs, tables, over bed tables, etc., using appropriate supplies and equipment to maintain the appearance and cleanliness of these items.
  • Strip, scrubs, seals, and finishes floors as required using appropriate supplies and equipment.
  • Remakes beds after washing using appropriate linen supplies.
  • Removes and re-hangs window draperies and bedside curtains as required, to maintain appearance and cleanliness.
  • Operates specific battery powered equipment designed to wash, scrub and polish hard floor surfaces. Must follow manufacturers' operational procedures, equipment maintenance procedures and safety procedures.
  • Sets up and breaks down conference rooms for meetings and other functions.
  • Follows the policy/procedure for Terminal Cleaning in patient rooms upon discharge and long-term care patients (at the designated interval set forth by policy).
  • Inspects assigned areas to ensure work has been performed following established procedures.

Required Qualifications:

  • Follows oral and written instructions/directions.
  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time and lift/carry heavy objects, with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior cleaning, custodial, housekeeping experience.

Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate's years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division's Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range.
