Position Description

The Church Lab at the Department of Genetics at Harvard Medical School conducts interdisciplinary research at the intersection of genetics, synthetic biology, computational biology, and biotechnology. The group develops novel experimental and computational platforms to advance genome engineering, DNA sequencing and synthesis, and biological systems design, with applications spanning basic research and translational biotechnology.

The Associate will support the development of a scalable DNA synthesis and assembly platform through hands-on experimental work and data analysis. Responsibilities include execution of DNA synthesis and assembly workflows, assistance with the design, assembly, testing, and optimization of laboratory instrumentation, and collection and analysis of experimental data. The individual will also provide support for automation and computational tools associated with instrument operation and data processing. The Associate will work under the direction of a senior researcher to carry out milestone-driven research activities, maintain accurate and organized documentation, and communicate progress in laboratory meetings. The role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with a degree of independence on assigned tasks within a collaborative research environment.

Basic Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in life sciences

  • At least one year of relevant laboratory or research experience in molecular biology or synthetic biology.

  • Experience working in a research laboratory environment.

  • Ability to follow established protocols and maintain accurate experimental records
