Description

Medical Assistant

Are you a Medical Assistant who's energized by a busy clinic and motivated by making patients feel welcome and cared for? At Thundermist Health Center, you'll be a vital part of our care team — greeting patients, taking vitals, preparing exam rooms, assisting providers with procedures, and keeping the clinical day running smoothly. You'll handle a mix of clinical and administrative tasks, all while delivering the kind of compassionate, patient-centered care our community counts on. If you want your work to directly support health equity and make a difference every day, we'd love to meet you.

Working under the supervision of a licensed professional, you'll take on a range of clinical and administrative responsibilities that are central to how we deliver care.

Clinical Care

  • Receive patients, confirm the reason for their visit, and obtain histories, vital signs, and other required tests.
  • Prepare patients for examinations, tests, and procedures based on visit type.
  • Assist providers during exams and procedures, maintaining a caring and supportive environment.
  • Perform routine diagnostic tests and administer immunizations based on established guidelines.
  • Properly operate and maintain clinical equipment.
  • Follow established guidelines to prepare instruments for sterilization and autoclaving.
  • Properly dispose of medical waste and sharps.
  • Assess the need for medication refills and update patient requests in the Chief Complaint.

Documentation & Administration

  • Ensure all forms, external records, and charting are complete for the provider prior to the visit.
  • Document clearly and concisely in patient progress notes and telephone encounters.
  • Monitor provider schedules for booking errors and correct them using established guidelines.
  • Assist with and answer calls for the provider and care team, documenting messages fully and accurately.
  • Maintain departmental logs, manage inventory, check expiration dates, and dispose of out-of-date supplies.
  • Stock exam rooms and follow established opening and closing guidelines.
  • Notify appropriate staff of any supply shortages, equipment damage, or missing equipment.
  • Adhere to OSHA, HIPAA, and all other licensing standards.

What We're Looking For

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program, equivalent relevant work experience, or current enrollment in an accredited nursing school with Fundamentals of Nursing and two clinical rotations completed.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • Strong organizational skills and computer literacy.
  • Technical skills and manual dexterity for clinical tasks such as vital signs, ECGs, injections, and patient prep.
  • Bilingual candidates are especially encouraged to apply; candidates who don't meet every preferred qualification are welcome.
  • A commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care and Thundermist's mission of serving our community.
