STC is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Tool Room Attendant to support composites manufacturing operations at NASA Langley Research Center under the MCHFSS II contract. This full-time position plays a critical role in maintaining tool room inventory, managing consumables, and supporting technicians working in composite fabrication, layup, and processing environments.
This role is ideal for someone who is organized, proactive, and able to operate independently while supporting a fast-paced, high-precision manufacturing environment.
Position Overview
The Tool Room Attendant is responsible for managing tools, materials, and consumables used in composites manufacturing processes. This includes supporting layup, curing, trimming, and finishing operations by ensuring all required materials, tooling, and chemicals are properly stocked, tracked, and readily available.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage tool room operations supporting composites fabrication, including issuing and tracking tools and equipment
- Maintain inventory of composites-related consumables such as prepreg materials, release films, peel ply, bagging materials, sealants, adhesives, and abrasives
- Coordinate ordering, receiving, and stocking of tools, materials, and consumables required for composite manufacturing operations
- Support technicians by staging materials and tooling for composite layups, cure cycles, and post-processing activities
- Track shelf life and storage requirements of composite materials, ensuring compliance with handling and environmental controls (e.g., freezer storage, out-time tracking)
- Assist with chemical inventory, labeling, storage, and safety compliance in accordance with SDS and shop requirements
- Maintain organization and cleanliness of tool room, freezers, and storage areas to support efficient workflow
- Monitor tool condition and coordinate repair, replacement, or calibration as needed
- Communicate material needs, shortages, or risks to supervision
- Support general shop logistics, including material handling and movement of parts and supplies
- Assist with cleaning the shop, maintaining a safe and orderly work environment, and supporting housekeeping standards across work areas
- Perform other duties as assigned to support fabrication and composites operations
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, or other equipment as required (if qualified)

Work Environment
Work is performed in a composites manufacturing and fabrication environment supporting NASA operations. This includes interaction with controlled storage areas (e.g., freezers), clean workspaces, and standard fabrication shop settings. The position requires flexibility to support evolving production needs and schedules.
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Experience in composites manufacturing, fabrication, machine shop, or warehouse/tool room environment preferred
- Familiarity with composite materials and processes (prepregs, vacuum bagging, curing) preferred
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, especially with inventory tracking and material control
- Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hand tools
- Ability to follow material handling requirements, including shelf life and environmental controls
- Experience handling chemicals and understanding of basic safety procedures preferred
- Forklift and/or overhead crane experience preferred
- Valid VA Driver's License required
- Ability to pass background check
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout shop environments for extended periods
