Description
Reverse Engineering Drafter / Technical Pump Specialist
We are looking for a hands-on Reverse Engineering Drafter / Technical Pump Specialist who can support both the technical drafting side of pump repair and the practical shop-floor side of understanding how pumps and components actually function.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys detailed drafting and reverse engineering work but is also willing to get out in the shop, inspect parts, learn pump assemblies, support repair scope development, and work directly with machinists, technicians, and technical leaders. The right person will be curious, mechanically minded, detail-oriented, and comfortable moving between CAD work, measurements, inspections, and hands-on pump learning.
This position will work between our Vidor and Port Arthur locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and update 2D AutoCAD drawings from sketches, measurements, existing parts, and shop input.
- Reverse engineer pump components such as impellers, sleeves, pump cases, bearing housings, and related parts.
- Develop detailed working drawings that support machining, casting, repair, and assembly.
- Create assembly drawings to verify fitment, running clearances, and component relationships.
- Use company CAD templates, standards, and procedures to ensure drawing consistency.
- Search, read, print, and manage drawings using Meridian or similar drawing/document systems.
- Support RFQ and quote-related drawing reviews by checking technical details before drawings are released.
- Create 3D models of pump parts using Inventor or similar software.
- Operate a Faro Arm or similar measuring equipment to collect data for part development.
- Measure parts using calipers, micrometers, gauges, rulers, and other precision measurement tools.
- Convert hand sketches, measurements, and existing components into accurate technical drawings.
- Spend time in the shop learning how pumps are disassembled, inspected, repaired, machined, and reassembled.
- Work directly with shop employees to better understand real-world part condition, wear, fitment, and repair needs.
- Assist with first article casting inspections.
- Support repair work scope development for pump parts and assemblies.
- Learn pump component function, failure modes, clearances, and how design decisions affect repair and performance.
- Collaborate with machinists, mechanics, technical support, and engineering resources to resolve fitment or drawing questions.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant drafting, machining, reverse engineering, pump repair, or technical shop experience preferred.
- AutoCAD experience required.
- CNC programming experience required.
- Experience with precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
- Ability and willingness to work in both an office/design environment and a hands-on shop environment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in learning pump repair, pump components, and rotating equipment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to communicate professionally with technical, shop, and leadership teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience reverse engineering pump parts or similar rotating equipment components.
- Inventor, Inventor CAM, or Mastercam experience.
- Faro Arm or portable CMM experience.
- Experience with pump parts such as impellers, sleeves, cases, bearing housings, shafts, and related components.
- Familiarity with machining processes, casting inspections, repair scopes, and assembly clearances.
- Experience working around VTLs, horizontal mills, lathes, and Fanuc controls.
