Pay: $16.25 per hour

Reports to: Guest Information Center Manager

Job Summary:

The Guest Information Specialist is a regular part-time position (fewer than 30 hours per week) at the Jekyll Island Guest Information Center. Hours vary between 8:00 am and midnight, including a 4:00 pm to midnight shift. The Specialist represents Jekyll Island Authority by greeting visitors, answering questions, and providing directions, maps, and other information. This role operates the point-of-sale (POS) system for retail sales and parking fee programs, ensuring accurate handling of transactions. Work is performed indoors and outdoors, with exposure to extreme weather such as heat, cold, rain, and wind. Flexible scheduling is required, including weekends, holidays, and occasional coverage of other shifts.

Description:

  • Provide exceptional customer service and respond to guest inquiries professionally and courteously.
  • Provide visitors with maps, directions, and information helpfully and courteously.
  • Answer incoming telephone calls promptly, providing accurate information and assistance to visitors and staff.
  • Assist guests via the intercom system by providing accurate information, directions, and problem resolution as needed.
  • Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system for retail sales and parking fee transactions accurately.
  • Deposit all receipts, complete verification of deposit records, and ensure all monies are accounted for.
  • Assist customers at Plaza gates as needed.
  • Participate in training activities to optimize customer service skills.
  • Restock inventory and maintain a clean and orderly sales floor.
  • Restock brochures and notify the Manager of low inventory levels.
  • Enter customer vehicle information data into the parking database.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years of retail or customer service experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience providing the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office, and ability to learn and use POS systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Flexible availability, including weekends, evenings, holidays, and occasional shift coverage.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality for scheduled work shifts is required.
  • Valid driver's license.

Licenses / Background Checks

  • Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a criminal background check.
  • A valid driver's license is required for tasks that involve travel between JIA-operated locations while on duty, whether using a state-issued or personal vehicle. All drivers must comply with Georgia state laws.
  • Credit check required for all positions assigned to handle cash transactions regularly.

Physical Demands / Working Conditions:

  • Exert up to 35 pounds of force occasionally and up to 15 pounds frequently, and exert negligible force to move objects constantly.
  • More than 50% of a typical workday will be spent walking, standing, balancing (including use of 1-2 steps), reaching, and using hands and fingers to handle objects such as inventory and money or performing POS transactions.
  • Between 25% and 50% of the typical workday will be spent stooping (bending at the waist) and lifting.
  • Less than 25% of the day will be spent kneeling, crouching, sitting, pushing, or pulling.
  • Must be able to perform tasks that require attention to detail, coordination, and accuracy.
  • Use of vision and hearing regularly to interact with guests and operate POS systems or equipment.
  • Spend more than 50% of the day verbally communicating (talking and hearing).
  • Must be able to verbally communicate instructions and information effectively.
  • Must have visual clarity to prepare and analyze data, use the computer, and read printed materials.
  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to extreme weather, including heat, cold, rain, wind, and humidity.
  • Noise levels may range from normal to loud, depending on visitor traffic.
  • This position will be exposed to moving vehicles and other hazards.
