Job Title: Custodial Worker

Department: MGI

Reports To: Contracts Manager

Location: The Excel Center - Thousand Oaks/ Austin Peay

Position Summary:

The Janitor is responsible for helping maintain a clean, safe, orderly, and welcoming school environment. This position supports the daily cleanliness and appearance of classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, common areas, and campus entry points.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Cleaning and Custodial Support:
• Clean Restrooms
• Restock restroom supplies, including soap, paper towels, and toilet paper
• Empty trash and replace liners as needed
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and spot clean floors
• Wipe and disinfect high-touch surfaces such as door handles, counters, tables, and railings. Position may require exposure to cleaning chemicals.
• Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of classrooms, offices, hallways, break areas, and common spaces
• Police the exterior grounds daily to remove trash and debris and help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming appearance around the facility.
• Floor Care and Training Center Janitorial Support
• Perform routine janitorial duties at the Goodwill Training Center, including trash removal, restroom cleaning, surface cleaning, and restocking supplies.
• Complete floor care tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, spot cleaning, buffing, and other basic floor maintenance to keep the facility clean, safe, and presentable.
• Monitor the condition of floors and report any damage, hazards, or maintenance needs.

Safety and Facility Support:
• Help maintain a safe environment for students, staff, and visitors.
• Report maintenance, safety, or security concerns promptly to the appropriate supervisor
• Assist with room setup and breakdown for meetings, events, and school activities
• Help keep entryways, walkways, and exterior access areas clean and free of debris
• Assist with monitoring building conditions and identifying issues that may affect school operations

Qualifications:
• Previous custodial, janitorial, porter, or general building maintenance experience preferred
• Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment
• Ability to perform minor maintenance and repair tasks safely and effectively
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
• Good communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills
• Ability to maintain professionalism in a school environment serving adult learners

Physical Requirements:
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
• Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and lift as needed
• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds
• Ability to push carts, move supplies, and operate standard custodial equipment
• Ability to safely use cleaning products, tools, and basic maintenance equipmen
