Job Summary
The Machine Shop Helper supports daily machine shop operations by assisting machinists, preparing materials, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, and performing basic shop tasks. This entry-level position is ideal for candidates interested in developing skills in machining and manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist machinists with setup, operation, and teardown of machining equipment
- Load and unload raw materials and finished parts
- Deburr, clean, and inspect parts using basic measuring tools
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the machine shop
- Perform basic material handling, tagging, and inventory support
- Operate hand tools, grinders, saws, and other shop equipment as trained
- Assist in Data Collection, Inventory Count & Tagging, and Order Distribution
- Follow all safety procedures, including PPE requirements
- Support preventive maintenance activities as directed
- Perform other duties as assigned by shop leadership
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Ability to read basic work instructions and safety guidelines
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn machining processes
- Ability to follow instructions and work safely as part of a team
- Dependable attendance and strong work ethic
- Must be able to operator a forklift and lifting devices
- Must be able to communicate in English (both written and oral) as it relates to the job
- Must have the ability to manage a range of priorities, sometimes under pressur
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a machine shop or manufacturing environment
- Familiarity with hand tools and shop equipment such as Saws, and Manual Machines
- Basic understanding of measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, tape measures)
- Vocational or technical training in manufacturing or machining
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with or without assistance
- Ability to work in a shop environment with noise, grease, and metal materials
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
Work Environment
Manufacturing machine shop setting with exposure to moving machinery. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required. Fast-paced, safety-focused environment.
