Camp Hope Horizon is a six- week, summer day-camp program for upwards of 100 elementary and middle school students in East Palo Alto. Both elementary & middle school students in rising TK through 9th (current TK/PreK through 8th) grade will receive academic support, engage in exciting STEM and art projects, fun games, character building, and outings with a host of other nonacademic programming.
Camp Hope Horizon will run Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am – 3:15 pm. The purpose of the role is to encourage and provide opportunities for professional development and growth in the areas of spirituality and/or child development and education
Responsibilities:
- Assist classroom leaders by leading group activities, tutoring students and mentoring them.
- Be available to learn classroom curriculum and support academic and extracurricular lessons.
- Assist in the end-of-summer showcase hosting community members and families of students.
- Provide & implement appropriate behavioral correction in adherence to Hope Horizon standards and policies.
- Communicate with Classroom Leader, Program Manager and/or Director of Programs regarding student concerns, progress, or any other program concerns.
- Be prompt, organized and meet deadlines pertaining to the program and intern role.
- Assist in preparing the building, field and classrooms for Camp Hope Horizon prior to the program start.
- Support daily program operations by maintaining facilities, collaborating with staff and interns, and following all Hope Horizon EPA safety policies and procedures
Schedule:
- June 8–11: Report for training & preparation (8 am–12 pm)
- June 15–July 24: Program dates, hours will be from 7:30 am – 4:00 pm
- July 24: End of summer celebration 7:30 am – 7:30 pm (breaks required)
Qualifications/Background:
- Agreement with Statement of Faith and commitment to the mission of Hope Horizon East Palo Alto
- Some high school work completed, junior or senior preferred; or some college courses completed
- Some prior experience working with youth
- Ability to work with a team and follow instructions from classroom leads, senior program staff, and other staff members employed by Hope Horizon
- Willingness to participate collaboratively, supportively, and enthusiastically on a diverse team.
