Custodian 1

SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Custodian 1 is responsible to maintain a sanitary and safe environment within the Head Start/Early Head Start facility.

QUALIFICATIONS ESSENTIAL:

1. High School Diploma or GED
2. Requires some knowledge of: methods, materials, and equipment used in light-duty custodial work; custodial safety practices; and cleaning agents and related products and their possible reactions
3. Current driver’s license
4. Ability to operate vacuums and rug shampooers
5. Complete criminal record check from Department of Health & Welfare’s Criminal History Unit prior to consideration for hire

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL:

1. Treat participants, fellow staff and community members with positive regard.
2. Maintain safe working habits to insure a safe working environment
3. Clean, sanitize, and polish lavatory and sink fixtures
4. Dust, wash and sponge mop
5. Sanitize and shampoo furniture, woodwork, walls, windows, and glass items
6. Clean shades and covers on light fixtures
7. Replace light bulbs
8. Remove waste and debris from areas
9. Sweep, vacuum, and shampoo carpet
10. Move furniture
11. Perform snow removal when applicable
12. Look after assigned equipment to insure maximum life and efficient operation
13. Develop and update MSDS binder
14. Participate in an individualized continuing education plan including CPR and First Aid
