JOB SUMMARY: The Building Custodian is responsible for performing custodial duties, management and ordering of supplies, completion of minor maintenance and other miscellaneous duties in order to ensure that CHN Memorial Campus buildings and grounds are maintained in a healthy, safe and sanitary manner. Participates in the organization's continuous quality improvement efforts.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Prioritizes, and manages work assignments from the Senior Director of Administration.
2. As needed, performs tours of the campus and picking up all loose trash from the grounds and empties receptacles as required
3. Determines need and places orders for all janitorial supplies and equipment electronically through vendor site
4. Manages inventory of all janitorial supplies
5. Conducts weekly inventory of janitorial supplies in all buildings to include the residential cottages and provides supplies as needed based on PAR sheet
6. Maintains OSHA required Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all campus chemicals, updating and distributing as necessary
7. Cleans and cares for buildings and facilities on a routine schedule to ensure they are maintained in a safe and healthy manner
Main Activities:
a. Clean offices, meeting rooms, and recreational facilities in Binnicker, Davis, Paisley, Clinic, and Gymnasium.
b. Clean floors, restrooms, refill paper dispensers, empty trash cans in assigned buildings
c. Mop tile and concrete floor areas
d. Vacuum all carpeted areas
e. Dust all furniture and fixtures as required
f. Wash and disinfect all washroom floors, toilets, toilet seats, hand dryers and fixtures
g. Clean all mirrors
h. Replenish toilet tissue and soap as needed
i. Empty all waste baskets and garbage cans and place garbage in outside storage bin
j. Clean entrance and exit including glass, doors and hardware
k. Keep outside area clear of paper, etc.
l. Clean, wash and disinfect drinking fountains
m. Wash all finger marks from walls, doors, hardware and glass
n. Perform and/or report minor maintenance repairs
o. Report damages and acts of vandalism
p. Clean and buff floors with floor polisher
q. Spot clean walls and toilet partitions
8. Manages and maintains storage areas, cleaning equipment, materials and supplies in a safe and orderly manner to ensure the safety of staff, youth, and the public
a. Secures storage areas
b. Ensures cleaning materials and supplies are stored in a safe and orderly manner
c. Manages and maintains an adequate supply of cleaning materials and supplies
d. Restocks materials and supplies
e. Make note of the need for equipment repairs
9. After daily Custodial duties are complete, assists in the completion of maintenance work orders.
a. Works independently or as part of the maintenance crew.
b. Maintains shop area in a clean and orderly manner, ensures that all tools and equipment properly put away. Repairs equipment when necessary, and recommends equipment additions/replacements as required.
c. Leads and supervises volunteers or community service personnel assigned to landscaping and maintenance projects as required.
d. Completes assigned Preventative Maintenance duties.
e. Recommends, implements, and ensures completion of new preventative maintenance projects
10. Checks PM schedule board and performs items as required
11. Communicates pertinent information to Senior Director of Administration on a daily basis or immediately in certain situations.
12. Works within the philosophy and function of the Children's Home Network.
13. Attends staff meetings and training sessions as required
14. Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience:
1. High School diploma or equivalent preferred and at least one year experience in custodial/maintenance work
Licenses & Certifications:
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license with no record of criminal driving offense of license suspension.
• Must possess means of providing job related transportation and show proof of required insurance. Must be insurable under CHN's current auto insurance policy.
• Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
• Must successfully complete and maintain FDLE clearance, Federal background and state criminal background check and sexual predator screening.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Must be skilled in the safe and effective use of cleaning chemicals and machinery.
2. Must have working knowledge of all kinds of floor maintenance procedures.
3. Ability to work effectively as a team member
4. Must have basic mechanical skills
COMPETENCIES & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
Annual Training Requirements: The following training topics are required annually: Sexual Harassment, Blood-born Pathogens, Workplace Accident Prevention and Reporting, Confidentiality and Privacy Practices, Diversity/Cultural Competency, Child Abuse and Neglect Mandated Reporter Statutes and Methods, Crisis Prevention, and Program Goals.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:
1. Able to lift at least fifty pounds.
2. Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
3. Visual: ability to safely operate a motor vehicle, mowers and other lawn machinery, read printed materials, and make observations of physical facilities.
4. Hearing: ability to understand and comprehend spoken dialogue in individual and group settings.
5. Frequent use of hands.
6. Ability to bend and stoop, and climb ladders
