Requirements
Position Summary
The Medical Assistant in the Specialty Clinic will have both clinical and administrative duties. Clinical responsibilities will include delegated medical functions under the direction of the manager in the delivery of care for assigned patients. This position also includes preparing exam rooms and patients for examination by the provider, collecting records, obtaining patient's medical history, vital signs, and other relevant data. May also administer injections or give treatments under the direction of the provider. Administrative duties will include answering phone calls, greeting patients/family members entering the facility, obtaining insurance authorizations, making referrals and additional support functions as directed. Performs all duties according to organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school education or equivalent.
- Current Medical Assistant certificate of proficiency.
- Maintains current CPR Certification from the American Heart Association (Healthcare Provider) or other approved educational programs.
- Current Arizona Department of Public Safety fingerprint clearance card (new hires must also complete the application process for this card before being released to their department, if applicable).
- Must be comfortable with giving immunizations and performing venipuncture.
- Must have experience in documenting in AIISIS, if applicable.
- Must have experience in obtaining prior authorizations for medications.
- Must be pleasant and comfortable with making patient calls for follow-up appointments and results.
- Must be a self-starter, not requiring direction or micro-management.
- Able to deal with the public in a compassionate, high paced environment.
- Must have the mental and physical ability to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation, the essential functions of the job.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least one-year experience in a high-volume family practice.
- Previous Meditech experience or other related electronic records systems.
- Experience with confirming eligibility with insurance companies.
- Bilingual English/Spanish
