JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Classification: Accountant I

Working Title: Accounts Payable

This is highly technical and responsible work of a professional nature in the maintenance and accurate completion of fiscal records for the Authority's programs and services. This employee will work with considerable independence at the technical aspects of the work yet will receive instruction and consultation with his/her supervisor on matters of policy and deviations from established procedures.

Division: Authority (Administration)

Normal Work Hours/Days: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

Performs the operation of accounts payable and intra-agency accounts receivable of the agency.

Pay invoices by check, ACH or credit card. Also, pay invoices on websites and through Active Pay credit card system.

Performs the preparation of monthly, annual, and other required financial reports.

Performs the posting of accounts and other accounting entries into the accounting system per specified schedule.

Prepare schedules and reconciliations monthly.

Perform special projects and perform other duties, as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field or an Associate degree in accounting or business with one year's work experience in accounts payable and accounting functions or three year's work experience in accounts payable and accounting functions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Excellent understanding of accounting rules and procedures including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Knowledge of automated accounting systems.

Advanced knowledge and experience of spreadsheet software applications.

Ability to prepare and understand detailed financial reports and statements.

Knowledge of budgeting principles.

Ability to work independently.

Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize.

Must be detail-oriented.

Good analytical skills.

Strong time management skills.

Ability to consistently meet regular deadlines.

Strong communication skills.

Ten key experience needed.
