Join a mission-driven team supporting veterans experiencing homelessness as they transition into stable housing. As a Lead Veteran Service Assistant, you will oversee daily residential operations, supervise front-line staff, and ensure veterans receive consistent, high-quality basic services in a safe and structured environment.
This role is ideal for a hands-on leader with experience in residential programs, shelter operations, or direct service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise daily delivery of residential services including shelter, meals, hygiene, and basic needs
- Lead and support Veteran Service Assistant staff to ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery
- Coordinate daily operations, including staff assignments and service coverage
- Develop weekly staff schedules in partnership with the Veteran Services Coordinator
- Provide training, coaching, and supervision to residential staff
- Monitor client behavior and de-escalate conflicts to maintain a safe and stable environment
- Document and report incidents, including verbal or physical altercations
- Ensure smooth day-to-day operations and continuity of services
- Coordinate with leadership to maintain inventory of supplies and meal services
- Support implementation of sobriety-focused programming, including UA testing
- Oversee safety protocols and emergency procedures at the site
- Track and report residential services data and ensure timely documentation
- Supervise mail and client communication processes within the facility
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience in nonprofit, shelter, or residential services
- At least 1 year of experience in a Veterans Services, housing program, or similar setting
- Proven ability to supervise and manage front-line staff
- Strong skills in conflict resolution, de-escalation, and client engagement
- Experience working in client-centered environments and supporting sober living or structured programs
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic computer skills for reporting and documentation
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet insurance requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with veterans, homeless populations, or behavioral health settings
- Experience in residential shelter operations or supportive housing programs
