Job Title: Yard Operator II

Job Summary

The Yard Operator II is responsible for safely and efficiently operating heavy equipment to support daily log yard operations. This role focuses on material handling, equipment
operation, and general yard responsibilities to ensure smooth production flow and a safe
work environment.

Key Responsibilities

Operate heavy equipment, primarily a front-end wheel loader, to:

• Unload log trucks
• Load outbound log trucks
• Move poles and logs to designated storage piles from the peeler
• Load logs onto the peeler infeed deck for processing
• Maintain orderly log decks and yard areas
• Communicate effectively with truck drivers, yard crew, and supervisors
• Perform pre-operational equipment inspections and basic equipment care
• Follow all safety procedures, environmental regulations, and operational guidelines
• Assist with additional yard and production tasks as assigned

Qualifications:
• Minimum of 2 years of heavy equipment operating experience preferred
• Proven experience operating front-end wheel loaders or similar equipment
• Strong understanding of safe equipment operation and yard safety practices
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Good situational awareness and attention to detail
• Willingness to adapt to changing priorities and work outdoors in varying weather
conditions
Physical & Work Requirements
• Ability to sit for extended periods while operating equipment
• Ability to climb equipment, maneuver uneven terrain, and work around heavy
machinery
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, or varying shifts as needed
Preferred Skills
• Previous experience in a log yard, sawmill, or wood products environment
• Basic mechanical knowledge for identifying equipment issues
• Strong work ethic and safety-focused mindset
