About the Organization
The Agricultural and Labor Program, Inc. (The ALPI) is a private, non-profit, community-based agency that provides services to migrants, seasonal farm workers, disadvantaged and disenfranchised children, individuals and families, in the State of Florida. The ALPI encourages the involvement of individuals served in decision-making processes affecting their lives.

ALPI's Children and Family Services Division focus is on activities that enhance the process of providing developmentally appropriate early education activities including, but not limited to, health, nutrition, dental, mental health, parent information and referral on quality child care and health services programs.
The ALPI is a certified Child/Adult Care Food Program agency. Through this program, ALPI provides nutrition and meal services for Head Start and Child Care Program participants and certifies private child care providers to participate in the program.

Description
SUMMARY:
Plans and supervises the work of staff performing accounts payable and payroll. Responsible for advanced accounting work.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Include the following.
- Plans and supervises the work of subordinate staff as it pertains to daily financial transactions.
- Ensures the proper classification of transactions from source documents through financial statements.
- Supervises the accounts payable and property management function.
- Assists in the preparation of budgets for grant applications.
- Assists Finance Director during monthly financial closings.
- Maintains agency wide and program budgets in the accounting system.
- Assist the Finance Director in monitoring budgets to ensure accurate cost distribution.
- Maintains fixed asset inventory and prepares fixed asset reports for auditors and management.
- Oversees bank reconciliations, fund transfers and checking account positive pay process.
- Prepares invoices for grants assigned to finance department for billing.
- Prepares all payroll tax reports and other mandated employee reports.
- Prepares IRS reports required for vendor payments.
- Maintains accounting data base-daily backups, error resolutions.
- Works closely with independent and grant auditors.
- Designs and prepares analytical reports for management and auditors.
- Maintains sub-contractor/sub-grantee contracts, verifying billings and balances.
- Assists Finance Director with the preparation of monthly financial statements.
- Other related duties may be assigned

Position Requirements
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages and to apply concepts of basic algebra.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university in accounting and three years of accounting experience, preferably for a not-for-profit organization; preferred to have some supervisory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
