GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Bus aides ride the bus and assure a safe and orderly ride. They assist students with seating, assistive devices, safety and behavioral concerns. They provide the driver with support as needed, both during routine activities and during emergencies. Aides may serve as a substitute driver when required. Van shuttle drivers will transport students with the school assigned van.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to pass a background check with no criminal history
  • Enjoy working with children of all ages and be sensitive to their needs.
  • Able to understand and have empathy for persons with disabilities.
  • Must establish and maintain effective communication with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Maintain a cooperative, harmonious relationship with professionals and others within the school setting, which fosters recognition and respect for every individual.
  • Perform such tasks as the supervisor may request in order to promote cooperative teamwork.
  • Use respectable language at all times.
  • Display professional behavior when working with students, families, co-workers and others in the community.
  • Have knowledge of common safety hazards.
  • Perform duties according to Greenville Public Schools safety and health policies.
  • Physically capable of performing CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) techniques, lifting and positioning students.
  • Willingness to acquire a chauffeur's license.

HOURS/SHIFTS

2 to 4 hours per day; position follows the school calendar

SALARY COMPENSATION

Position is paid in accordance with the Greenville Educational Support Personnel Association
