AC Line Set Technician

Position Overview

The AC Line Set Technician is responsible for the installation, routing, and preparation of refrigerant line sets for residential systems. This role focuses on copper line set installation, insulation, pressure testing support, and jobsite readiness to ensure HVAC systems are installed to company standards, manufacturer specifications, and applicable codes.

This position works under the direction of a Lead Installer or Supervisor and does not require full HVAC system commissioning responsibilities.

Technical Responsibilities of the Job
  • Install copper refrigerant line sets for air conditioning and heat pump systems in residential and light commercial settings
  • Measure, cut, bend, support, and secure copper tubing according to layout plans and job specifications
  • Properly insulate line sets and seal wall penetrations to prevent air, moisture, and pest intrusion
  • Route line sets through walls, attics, crawlspaces, and exterior wall paths while maintaining clean workmanship
  • Assist with pressure testing, leak checking, and preparation for evacuation (as directed)
  • Secure line sets to meet manufacturer requirements, local codes, and company standards
  • Maintain a clean and organized jobsite during and after installation
  • Load, unload, and stage materials and tools needed for line set installation
  • Communicate job progress or site concerns to supervisor or lead installer
  • Follow safety procedures and use appropriate PPE at all times

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience installing copper tubing and refrigerant line sets for HVAC systems preferred
  • Ability to safely use hand tools and power tools (tubing cutters, benders, drills, etc.)
  • Ability to read basic layouts or installation plans
  • Comfortable working in attics, crawlspaces, and outdoor environments
  • Ability to lift and carry materials up to approximately 50 lbs
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous HVAC installation support or helper experience
  • Basic understanding of refrigerant piping practices and insulation requirements
  • EPA Section 608 Certification (or willingness to obtain)
Physical & Work Conditions
  • Required to climb ladders, kneel, bend, and work in confined spaces
  • Exposure to heat, dust, and outdoor weather conditions
  • Regular use of hand and power tools
Education
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
