Pay Schedule I, Grade 20, Regular Schedule: 35 hours per week

Examples of Duties

Under general supervision, prepares and maintains complete payroll and related records for a County agency or performs complete accounting clerical work involving budgeting, procurement, collection, disbursement, and related functions; and does related work as required.

  • Prepares and maintains complete payroll and personnel records for a County agency.
  • Acts as liaison between agency personnel and other agencies regarding payroll administration, responds to inquiries, and resolves problems regarding the same.
  • Prepares journal entries, posts charges and other financial data to general and special ledgers, maintains suspense logs and ledgers, reviews and monitors vouchers, and processes direct payment invoices and requests.
  • Reviews, checks, and recomputes calculations for accuracy and completeness. Audits daily, weekly, monthly totals for accounts.
  • Makes routine computations based on established rates and formulas and handles routine taxpayer inquiries as needed.
  • Maintains various account-related files including master files for computerized systems.
  • Enters and retrieves information using data entry devices and performs word processing functions relative to the skill level necessary to perform the duties listed above.

Qualifications

Training and Experience:
Graduation from a recognized high school
PLUS
two years' experience in bookkeeping, accounting or auditing work.

(Additional education in bookkeeping, accounting, or auditing may be substituted, on a year-for-year basis, for the required experience. Additional experience as described by the duties of the position may be substituted, on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of four years.)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Good knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles and practices. Good knowledge of office functions, procedures, and methods. Ability to understand governmental rules, regulations, and procedures. Ability to maintain a wide variety of complete accounting records. Ability to use office machines and Equipment necessary to perform the duties required of the position.

Salary

Annual Salary review - Step increases may be granted on anniversary date based on satisfactory job performance
General Increases - Cost of living increases and adjustments may be granted as legislated.
Longevity Increases - In accordance with the specific pay schedule, a full-time merit or classified employee may receive a longevity increase, equivalent to one step, upon completion of a certain number of years of classified service with the County.
