Accountant Position

Would you like to put your professional accounting skills to work for St. Louis County? The role involves preparation, maintenance, analysis and auditing of financial records and reports in accordance with County policies, state statutes and federal regulations. The full salary range, including longevity pay, is $31.21 - $44.23 per hour. This position is part of the Civil Service Basic Unit Employees Collective Bargaining Agreement represented by Council 5 of AFSCME. St. Louis County does not participate in E-Verify. All employees must be continuously authorized to work in the United States, for St. Louis County, on a full-time basis. St. Louis County does not provide sponsorship for employment visas.

An employee in this class is responsible for performing professional accounting functions required for maintaining a variety of departmental and institutional accounts. Duties include analyzing and monitoring financial and budgetary systems, executing complex accounting functions, and recommending improved procedures and methods in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The work is performed under the direction of assigned supervisory staff.

FREQUENT: Bend neck; talk/speak; sit and visual accommodation. OCCASIONAL: Lift and carry up to 10 pounds; rotate neck; static neck position; walk; hear within 5 feet and midrange vision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Pass/Fail): Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in accounting; OR graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in finance and two (2) years full-time paid, verifiable accounting related experience. Possession of a valid driver's license.

Supplemental Questions will be 100% of the scoring process: Points will be awarded based on the applicant's answers to supplemental questions 8-14. Experience beyond ten years may be included on the application for purposes of meeting minimum qualifications or informing the hiring authority of your complete employment history. TENTATIVE RECRUITMENT & SCREENING PROCESS SCHEDULE: April 23, 2026 - Applicant screening will begin. Week of May 11, 2026 - Supplemental question scoring to be completed Week of May 25, 2026 - Interviews to be conducted.
