This position involves welcoming patients, managing registrations, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, and providing clear, compassionate support throughout their healthcare journey.
Key Responsibilities
- Create a warm and efficient environment for patients, addressing their needs from the moment they arrive.
- Collect and accurately enter demographic and insurance information into the system, updating records as necessary.
- Obtain required consents and forms from patients.
- Verify insurance coverage through direct contact with providers or electronic systems, ensuring proper pre-authorizations and referrals are secured.
- Explain insurance benefits and financial responsibilities clearly to patients.
- Deliver exceptional customer service by promptly answering calls, addressing concerns, and providing information.
- Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality.
- Collect co-pays, deductibles, and other payments in line with organizational policies.
- Support efficient claims processing and patient satisfaction by managing work queues effectively.
- Assist patients in navigating online portals and adapt to shifting work assignments as needed.
Education
High School Diploma or GED is required.
Experience
Preferred experience includes at least six months in office, call center, customer service, or healthcare settings. Familiarity with computers and standard office equipment is essential. Proficiency in data entry and completion of an accredited medical receptionist program or two years in healthcare is advantageous.
Certifications
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.
Mental and Physical Requirements
Ability to focus with attention to detail under time constraints, manage repetitive tasks, and handle frequent interruptions. Physical demands include standing, walking, sitting, reaching, assisting patients in wheelchairs, and lifting up to 10 pounds.
Working Conditions
Typical office environment with occasional exposure to noise, fumes, chemicals, and other hazards. Flexibility to work various shifts is necessary.
