General Summary

The SBO Billing Specialist manages inbound and outbound communications to address patient inquiries and resolve outstanding balances. You will provide clear explanations of coinsurance, copays, deductibles, contractual adjustments, and discounts, ensuring patients understand their financial responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary contact for patient questions regarding financial obligations.
  • Resolve patient complaints related to billing and clarify insurance coverage details.
  • Contact guarantors about past due balances and process payments securely.
  • Offer payment options such as monthly plans and bank loan financing through secure portals.
  • Screen and assist patients with financial assistance applications for outstanding balances.
  • Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA guidelines when handling patient information.
  • Distinguish billing issues from patient care concerns and escalate appropriately.
  • Reconcile business banking and credit card accounts accurately.

Education

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional training in healthcare billing or customer service is preferred.

Experience

Previous experience in medical billing is highly preferred. Familiarity with Microsoft Office and billing software, including electronic data submission, is advantageous.

Certification/License

Relevant certifications or licenses are a plus but not mandatory.

Mental/Physical Requirements

Strong communication skills, visual acuity, and the ability to comprehend written instructions are essential. The role requires normal mental concentration for repetitive tasks and the physical ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, and occasionally lift items up to ten pounds.
