Description

Take charge of switchboard operations, alarm monitoring, and after-hours answering services as the central communications hub for a regional healthcare facility in the Midwest. This full-time role operates Monday through Friday from 7 AM to 3 PM, ensuring smooth information flow and maintaining departmental records.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Monitor and dispatch internal emergency responses aligned with standardized emergency codes and facility safety alarms.
  • Collaborate closely with 911 dispatchers during critical situations.
  • Serve as the Communication Center during incident command activations for internal or external emergencies such as mass casualty events or severe weather.
  • Handle after-hours calls and route them appropriately.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in managing switchboard, public address systems, and various communication methods including written, oral, and electronic.
  • Utilize on-call systems efficiently, interpreting schedules and adhering to telecommunications protocols.
  • Maintain compliance with privacy and security regulations concerning protected health information (PHI).
  • Foster effective communication and professional relationships with patients, team members, contractors, physicians, outside agencies, and the public.

General Responsibilities

Education

Preferred: Associate's Degree or higher in communications or a related field.

Experience

Preferred: Previous switchboard or dispatching experience and at least one year of office or healthcare employment.

Requirements

  • Strong active listening skills across multiple communication formats.
  • Customer service expertise.
  • Moderate computer proficiency including keyboarding and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally.

Physical Requirements

This is primarily sedentary work with occasional exertion up to 10 lbs and minimal standing or walking.
