Description

Bus Driver

Department: Transportation

Reports To: Director of Transportation

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Operate any and all school buses, including Special Education buses, on scheduled routes and/or on all types of trips in support of district approved activities, both within and out of school district boundaries
  • Successfully complete District school bus driver training programs and courses
  • Complete all other training programs required by District policy and procedures
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip bus inspections as required by State and District policy procedure
  • Maintain interior and exterior cleanliness of assigned district vehicles; sweeping, dusting, and washing
  • Add fuel, oil, and coolant as needed
  • Maintain control of student passengers as related to safety. Report unsafe acts or conditions which require the attention of supervisory personnel. Confer with parents when necessary
  • Complete forms, records and reports as required by State and District policy and procedures. Maintain an up to date seating chart on bus
  • Operate a school bus in accordance with the laws of the State of Arkansas and District policy and procedures
  • Wear appropriate attire to comply with District policy and procedures
  • Operate and maintain all school bus equipment and accessories including, but not limited to, fire extinguishers, highway warning kits, first aid kits, wheel chair lifts, and tie downs
  • Operate all hand and foot controls installed in the school bus as required by Arkansas State School Bus Specifications
  • Perform basic first aid as appropriate, which may include CPR
  • Maintain and complete legible and accurate forms, records, time sheets, accident reports, and other clerical type activities as may be required
  • Perform other school bus driver related duties as directed by District policy procedures
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and the general public
  • Notify transportation director if driver cannot perform assigned duty as early as possible so that a substitute can be notified to take your place
  • Upon student entry of bus, the driver must be present on the bus
  • Participate in all required screenings and tests
  • Daily attendance and punctuality are required for the purpose of ensuring the goals of the work unit can be met
  • Display professionalism in appearance, attitude, and actions
