As a dedicated driver, you will be responsible for transporting children to and from school, extracurricular activities, and special events with professionalism, care, and enthusiasm. Duties

  • Safely operate school buses and other transit vehicles in accordance with traffic laws and company policies
  • Pick up and drop off students at designated locations on time, ensuring punctuality and safety
  • Conduct pre-trip inspections of the vehicle to verify mechanical soundness and report any issues promptly
  • Communicate clearly with students, parents, school staff, and colleagues to coordinate routes and address concerns
  • Manage student behavior on the bus using positive reinforcement techniques and behavior management skills
  • Assist students with special needs or disabilities, including those requiring paratransit services or childcare support
  • Maintain accurate logs of routes, mileage, student counts, and safety checks throughout each shift

Requirements

  • Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate school bus endorsements or willingness to obtain one
  • Proven experience in bus driving, commercial driving, or related transportation roles
  • Strong communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus for diverse communities
  • Ability to work with children effectively while demonstrating patience and empathy
  • Mechanical knowledge to perform basic vehicle inspections and troubleshoot minor issues
  • Knowledge of child safety protocols, behavior management practices, and customer service principles
  • Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently; familiarity with teaching is advantageous
  • Must pass background checks, Maine Department of Education Crimal History Records Check (CHRC), drug screenings, and driving record evaluations as required by law
