Commercial Credit Support Specialist

Maintain and improve the efficiency of the underwriting process for the commercial banker(s) in the Markets assigned, as well as the Region as needed. This will be achieved through the joint calling on existing and prospective customers, gathering and analysis of financial data from new and existing customers relative to new loan requests, as well as updating financial analyses for significant relationships in the Market(s) and Regional loan portfolios. It will also be achieved through the processing and assisting with the preparation of credit requests and service requirements that are consistent with the Bank's stated policies, procedures and philosophy.

Specific Job Functions (Duties/Responsibilities):

  • Work with assigned Commercial Bankers and through joint calling on existing and/or prospective customers to create credit requests and prepare them in order to recommend approval to a higher authority in the Bank.
    • Assist lending officers to ensure:
  1. Ensure appropriate underwriting standards are applied
  2. Credits are structured appropriately
  3. Pricing provides adequate return for the Bank
  4. Compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Spread tax returns and personal financial statements to show accurate cash flow calculations that will be uploaded into the loan origination system.
  • Assist with all aspects of the credit underwriting process to help bankers be more efficient in handling existing and new credit requests.
  • Monitor and handle modifications for the existing credit portfolio. This will include obtaining and updating financial information to proactively assist bankers to ensure credits are renewed or modified before they mature.
  • Update files annually to help with annual reviews on all credits as determined by the Bank.
  • Assist with preparing credit memos on loan requests when needed.
  • Have customer contact to update and get information as needed that is necessary for the credit to be processed and maintained.
  • Stay abreast of markets assigned around Real Estate market trends to ensure we are properly underwriting requests in all market cycles. Attend local seminars around CRE when available.
  • Monitor and work with the Department Manager, Regional Executive, lending officers, and Loan Recovery on any assigned watch list credits to assure the best outcome for the Bank.
  • Review, analyze, and assist with commercial credit requests in a timely manner.
    • Assist with tracking credit exposure limits for commercial credit.
    • Assist the Reporting Manager with all matters relating to commercial credit
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required:

    • Possess knowledge of credit underwriting and analysis
    • Possess current market knowledge in assigned markets to be able to assist in proper loan underwriting and managing the loan portfolio assigned.
    • Knowledge of bank regulations and Bank loan policies.
    • Proficient with personal computer using related software i.e. Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, etc.
    • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of Bank employees and with new and existing customers.
    • Ability to handle sensitive requests from customers.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently with very little supervision.

    Education/Experience Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in business or a related field.
    • Possess over 10 years of commercial and agriculture credit experience either through experience with analyzing credits or directly making credit decisions.
