Description
Payroll Coordinator
The Payroll Coordinator, under the supervision of the Business Manager, is responsible for the accurate and timely coordination of payroll appointments and benefits for 200+ active paid employees including tenure, tenure track, and professional track faculty, exempt and non-exempt staff, undergraduate and graduate student employees as well as visiting and non-paid appointments. The Payroll Coordinator is responsible for the daily payroll processing, coordinating the on-boarding and off-boarding process including the benefit and retirement process and overseeing VISAs sponsored by the University for the Department of Psychology. This position is responsible for ensuring the department is compliant with employment contracts, effort reporting, leave monitoring, record and retention and other requirements by the University, State, Federal and Sponsoring Agencies. The Payroll Coordinator will encumber all payroll encumbrances for the department in Priority software system, enter Department Scholarships through the Student Aid System and work closely with the Business Manager to provide reports.
Preferences: The ideal candidate has experience working in higher education, experience with University System of Maryland policies and procedures, experience using the university software such as Workday, iTerp, and Priority Software (BA4).
Physical Demands: Office environment setting with majority of time spent working at a computer. Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer. Repetitive motions, which include substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Required close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, viewing computer terminals, extensive reading. Light lifting of materials and supplies, less than 10 lbs. Ability to move about campus to attend meetings/events.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Experience: One (1) year of professional payroll experience. Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education. Knowledge of payroll policies and procedures, and federal, state, and other applicable payroll related laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances. Knowledge of payroll functions. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products. Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments. Ability to analyze situations and determine the best recourse for response.
