Position Title: Substitute Custodian
Reports To: Head Custodian / Building Principal / Facilities Director

Job Summary:

The Substitute Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment in school buildings and grounds during the absence of a regular custodial staff member. This position plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations of the school and ensuring a sanitary and functional learning environment for students and staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform general cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing surfaces
• Clean and disinfect restrooms, replenish supplies, and empty trash and recycling bins
• Set up and break down rooms for events, meetings, or school functions
• Lock and unlock doors, ensure building security
• Assist with minor maintenance and report facility issues to the head custodian or supervisor
• Maintain cleanliness of entrances, sidewalks, and outdoor areas (may include snow/ice removal as needed)
• Follow proper safety and sanitation procedures
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Previous custodial or maintenance experience preferred but not required
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical labor
• Ability to work independently and follow directions
• Dependable, punctual, and professional in conduct
• Must pass a background check and meet district employment requirements

Work Schedule:

As needed; hours and days may vary depending on building and coverage needs.
