As a working leader, performs the following duties: Distributes and balances workload among employees. Observes work in progress, production, adherence to quality and safety standards. Instructs and trains new employees. Elevates unresolved employee complaints or operational issues to supervisor. Provides input on performance, progress, and disciplinary problems. Reports all repair and maintenance requirements according to established policy. Reports all safety violations to immediate supervisor. Updates computer database with room status, occupancy, check-outs and reports on housekeeping area. Ensures adequate stock of cleaning materials and equipment required to do the work. Assists custodial worker in selecting and using cleaning agents safely and cost effectively and instructs them in planning sequence of work. Performs custodial worker duties as time permits or as assigned by supervisor. Cleans guest rooms, storerooms, corridors, stairways, facilities and other areas. Scrubs, strips, waxes, and polishes floors using heavy (industrial-type) powered scrubbers and buffers. Washes walls, using powered wall washing machine. Vacuum cleans rugs, using heavy (industrial-type) vacuum cleaners. Adjusts, cleans, and oils these machines, and changes brushes, rollers, buffers, and other attachments on them. Washes and replaces venetian blinds, and washes ceiling fixtures and room partitions, using ladders and scaffolds. Moves heavy furniture, supplies, and equipment. Collects soiled linen and replaces with clean linen. The work involves heavy physical effort. The incumbent must move and control heavy equipment, carry and set up ladders and scaffolding and work from ladders and scaffolds. Must be physically able to frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and carry objects weighing over 50 pounds. Work requires the physical ability to handle and control heavy powered equipment, and to do minor maintenance on this equipment. Performs other related duties as assigned.
