School Year Hours: Monday - Friday 5:30am-2:00pm

Summer Hours: (M-F 6:30 AM-3:00 PM)
Occasional weekend hours in the summer

Effective Date of Employment:

As soon as possible - this is a year-round position

Salary:

According to the Custodial Salary Scale

FY26 Starting Salary: $48,697.00 and an increase after 6 consecutive months of service.

Performance Responsibilities:

The Building Custodian is generally responsible for the achievement of the purposes of custodian services in the building, i.e., preserve property values, protect health and safety of occupants; support the educational objectives of the building and provide a climate of learning, develop goodwill and maintain cleanliness and neatness.

  • Open High School building at 5:30 am and prepare for classes, lights, doors, cafeteria, etc.
  • Cafeteria duties, keep up general cleanliness, clean up breakfast, lunch and snacks.
  • Deliver paper, and packages to offices, classrooms, and offices as needed.
  • Clean physical education 1st floor restrooms, and any other locations needed.
  • Grounds upkeep including trash pickup, emptying trash barrels, sweeping or blowing off debris from sidewalks and entrances and snow removal.
  • General maintenance and repair.
  • Fill in as Head Custodian at all schools as needed.
  • You may be required to work at more than one building in a day.
  • When you travel you will be required to use your own personal transportation. You will be reimbursed for mileage at the government rate at the time of travel.
  • Perform all other general duties as indicated by the Principal, directives of the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee, the Custodial Supervisor or his/her designee, and policies of the Marlborough School Committee.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED preferrred but not required.
  • Physical and mental capabilities to perform above work.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Ability to understand spoken and written English.
