Custodian
The Houston County Board of Education is looking for a custodian to keep the building clean and orderly. This position reports to the principal and is non-exempt.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
- Sweeps, mops, scrubs, and vacuums hallways, stairs, and office space.
- Cleans carpet, bathrooms, grounds, parking lots, and windows, and AC/heating vents.
- Empties trash and garbage containers.
- Maintains building.
- Sets up and takes down for school activities.
- Supplies and resupplies materials for restrooms.
- Changes light bulbs.
- Notifies principal concerning the need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment.
- Cleans sand and debris from sidewalks.
- Monitors the use and amount of supplies and orders supplies when necessary.
- Monitors/maintains limits on spending related to custodial budget.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the principal.
Qualifications:
- High school education or GED preferred. One month related experience or training preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to write simple correspondence; ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Physical demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Work environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Additional requirement: Must be at work on time. Must meet attendance standards. Must conduct activities safely. Must be willing to work flexible shifts.
