Custodian

WAGE RANGE: (All new employees enter at the bottom of the wage scale unless they have previous experience in the position with a Head Start program.)

PURPOSE: Keeps Head Start Centers in clean and orderly condition, performing general maintenance tasks indoors and outdoors

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience: None required.

Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge:

a. Good housekeeping habits

b. Ability to use cleaning chemicals safely

c. Ability to follow instructions

SUPERVISES: None

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Mental Concentration: Considerable concentration intermittently.

Interruptions: Occur constantly.

Physical Effort: Moderate physical effort in a predominantly sitting position.

Special Demands: Lifting up to 50 lbs.

Special Requirement: History verification showing free of child abuse/neglect by authorities.

Act 33/34 Clearances and staff health assessment completed.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties may include any or all of the following. This list is intended to be representative.

1. Sweeps, mops, scrubs, and vacuums hallways, stairs and office space.

2. Empties trash and garbage containers.

3. Maintains building, performing minor and routine painting, plumbing, electrical wiring, and other related maintenance activities.

4. Cautions students regarding disorderly conduct, or misuse of property.

5. Provides lawn maintenance and snow removal.

6. Assists with daily safety inspections and upkeep.

7. Maintains strict confidentiality with respect to Head Start children, families and staff in accordance with established policies and procedures.

8. Provides assistance with recruiting children by using community resources, staff, and parent contacts.

9. Encourages In-Kind participation.

10. Performs other related work as required on behalf of the agency.

Applicable Fringe Benefit Package

Pay Range: $13.00 - $13.73 per hour
