Description
Shipping Clerk, 1st Shift, Watertown CT
Full-Time | On-site | Temp-to-Hire 6am - 4:30pm
$22-25hr DOE
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Shipping & Receiving
- Coordinate domestic and international shipments.
- Create required paperwork in ERP system (pick lists, shipping orders, packing slips, bills of lading, invoices).
- Prepare and send all export documentation (SLI, waybills, etc.) for international shipments.
- Arrange carriers for all shipments, including brokers, trucking companies, UPS, FedEx, etc.
- Ensure shipments are packaged, labeled, and meet customer requirements; verify quantities match orders.
- Confirm shipping weights and traceability information are correct and recorded.
Receiving
- Receive shipments of raw materials, supplies, and customer returns.
- Inspect packages, match packing slips to orders, and enter receiving transactions into ERP.
- Move receipts to proper locations and record necessary traceability information.
Inventory Control
- Ensure accuracy of finished goods and raw material inventory.
- Issue/withdraw raw materials to production jobs, ensuring accurate job cost postings.
- Record all inventory transactions in ERP system.
- Maintain inventory accuracy for all shipping, receiving, and vendor-related activities.
- Adjust inventory for scrapped product and perform periodic cycle counts per accounting schedule.
- Coordinate activities for selling scrap metals.
Vendor Shipments (Backup Coordinator)
- Create purchase orders in ERP for shipments to/from outside vendors.
- Coordinate vendor pickups/drop-offs and ensure quantities, weights, and traceability are accurate.
- Ensure timely return of products.
Additional Responsibilities
- Serve as liaison between customer service, sales, and production.
- Follow all work procedures and direct subordinates in proper processes.
- Recommend improvements to shipping methods, procedures, and equipment for efficiency.
- Report faulty operations, defective material, or unusual situations immediately.
- Comply with all safety rules and maintain proper housekeeping in work area.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Regularly required to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, handle materials, and communicate.
- Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs.
- Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with moderate to high noise levels.

Skills & Qualifications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly organized with ability to prioritize tasks.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
- Experience with Syteline or other ERP systems preferred.
- Knowledge of basic accounting and inventory control helpful.
- Experience with international shipping documentation and methods preferred.
- Ability to learn and apply on-the-job training.
